KIMrigid® RP 020 Series: Superior Performance and Energy Efficiency in Pipe Insulation
Increasing global energy demand significantly increases the interest in energy efficient, low cost and environmentally friendly insulation applications. The widespread use of energy efficiency certificates for buildings, especially in Europe and Turkey, increases the pressure for energy efficiency in the construction sector.
One of the most important factors affecting energy efficiency in buildings is the pipes they contain. The energy impact of pipe insulation on the cold and hot water cycle of buildings is of great importance. In order to achieve high efficiency, the heated or cooled water in the pipes must be transported to the destination with the highest possible energy efficiency.
Pipes are also used extensively in the energy and industrial sectors to transport chemicals and liquids from one point to another with the same efficiency. In previous years, these pipelines, which usually had rock wool based insulation, completely lost their insulation performance when exposed to moisture. This put extra burden on refineries in terms of both energy and pump costs. Today, polyurethanes with high temperature resistance, superior insulation performance and moisture resistance are increasingly preferred for pipe insulation. Polyurethane provides excellent thermal insulation with low thermal conductivity, which increases energy savings. In addition, thanks to its high mechanical strength, it protects the pipes against environmental conditions, which increases the overall efficiency and lifetime of the system. All these properties make polyurethane an ideal pipe insulation material in terms of energy efficiency and cost effectiveness.
DIN EN 253, an important standard for pipe insulation, is a critical European standard for pre-insulated connected pipe systems used in district heating systems. This standard aims to maintain thermal integrity and minimise energy loss by ensuring the reliability and efficiency of pipe insulation.
Achieving the standards of DIN EN 253 certification requires materials that demonstrate robust mechanical properties as well as providing excellent thermal insulation. With the KIMrigid® RP 020 Series developed by our Kimpur R&D Rigid team for pipe insulation, we were able to fulfil all requirements and obtain DIN EN 253 certification.
By integrating the KIMrigid® RP 020 Series into piping systems, we guarantee pipe manufacturers and users high efficiency and long-lasting use, as well as energy savings and maintenance cost benefits.
