Polyurethane Raw Materials for Foam Production in Rail Transportation
Comfort and Durability in Rail Transportation
Passenger seats in rail vehicles such as trains, metros, and trams accommodate different passengers throughout the day. Despite frequent and repeated use, these seats are expected to provide a comfortable seating experience while maintaining their shape over time. For seat manufacturers, selecting the right foam structure is essential to meeting these expectations. While foam flexibility and durability influence seating performance, fire safety requirements in passenger transportation also play an important role in material selection.
To address these needs, Kimpur has developed KIMflex® HR Foam Systems for seat manufacturers in the rail transportation industry. Designed for the production of molded flexible polyurethane foam components used in passenger seating, these polyurethane raw material systems combine comfort, long-term durability, and fire performance.
The high resilience of HR (High Resilience) foams allows the foam to recover its original shape after being compressed under load. Thanks to their resilience and dimensional stability, foams produced with KIMflex® HR Foam Systems help maintain seating comfort under repeated use. This enables manufacturers to develop seats that provide comfort during long journeys while withstanding the demands of intensive daily use.
In rail seating applications, achieving comfort and durability with a foam structure that meets fire safety requirements is equally important. KIMflex® HR Foam Systems meet the applicable heat release and smoke density requirements specified under EN 45545-2, offering low smoke generation and low toxic gas emissions. Their low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions also contribute to maintaining indoor air quality during use.
Advantages
- High Resilience: Helps the foam recover its original shape after the load is removed.
- Long-Term Seating Comfort: Supports comfortable and consistent seating throughout the journey.
- Dimensional Stability and Durability: Helps maintain foam shape and performance under intensive daily use.
- EN 45545-2 Compliance: Meets applicable heat release and smoke density requirements for railway applications.
- Low Smoke and Toxic Gas Emissions: Contributes to reducing smoke generation and toxic gas emissions in the event of a fire.
- Low VOC Emissions: Supports indoor air quality.
